<p>Wood River Campground is composed of 30 campsites including 1 double-site and a picnic area which are all first-come, first-serve. Wood River Group Overnight Area is located inside the Wood River Campground, can accommodate up to 150 people, and may be reserved by visiting <a href="http://www.recreation.gov">www.recreation.gov</a> or by calling (877)444-6777. The campground setting is heavily forested and divided by the Big Wood River. Trails in Northfork Canyon lead to the Amber Lakes, Window Lake, and into the Hemingway-Boulder Wilderness Area. This campground is located on the banks of the beautiful Big Wood River at an elevation of 6,400 feet. Ketchum, Idaho is conveniently close, only 10 miles south. Visitors enjoy fishing and tubing in the Big Wood river and exploring local trails. There is an amphitheater which is available for group events and for Ranger programs.</p>
The elevation is 6,500 ft. This campground is one of 37 in the Sawtooth National Recreation Area (SNRA). Located alongside Big Wood River and State Rt. 75, the campground is composed of Douglas fir, Lodgepole pine, and some Aspen. It is heavily wooded and has a very "woodsy" feel. Some camp sites are adjacent to the river. Traffic noise from State Rt. 75 is distracting at some camp sites. Fox sightings are common. This is a good transient campground or long term for among other things, exploring the SNRA and the full-service ski town of Ketchum. Regarding the SNRA, consider day trips to Stanley, Stanley Museum, Sunbeam Hot Springs, Redfish Lake, and Sawtooth Fish Hatchery. Obtain information about all these activities plus more from the SNRA Visitor Center (Headquarters) about 1.8 miles east from campground on State Rt. 75. This is bear country; practice safe food storage techniques.

The flush toilet is in the day-use area.
Some parking aprons are paved and others are dirt. There is no RV turnaround for sites 1,2,3, 7 and 8. An RV waste station with potable water is available for a donation at the SNRA Visitor Center (Headquarters) 1.8 miles east of campground off State Rt. 75.
From Ketchum, ID, take State Rt. 75 west 7.9 miles to campground sign. Turn left at sign into campground.

Best season: summer. Summer offers reliably warm, dry weather (daytime highs around 70–80°F, nights dropping to the low 40s) and full access to the Wood River Group Overnight Area, making it ideal for riverside camping, swimming, floating, and day hikes into the surrounding Sawtooth slopes. River flows are usually safe for wading and family-friendly floating by mid-July–August, and trailheads are fully accessible for longer hikes and mountain biking. The Wood River Group Overnight Area offers comprehensive facilities tailored for both group and individual campers. The group site accommodates up to 40 people overnight or 150 for day use. Alongside this, the broader campground provides 30 single campsites available for RVs and tents on a first-come, first-serve basis. Roads and parking spurs are paved, though the site surfaces are dirt, and the natural surroundings include forests of Douglas fir, Ponderosa pine, Lodgepole pine, and aspens.
