Go if

Paddlers and birders who visit October through March get the most out of this place: rent a kayak from the on-site outpost, fish the tidal Tomoka River, and watch ospreys and wading birds from Spanish-moss-draped sites that feel far more private than 100-site parks usually do.

Skip if

Summer visits mean real mosquitoes and Florida humidity that reviewers don't understate, and a handful of past visitors describe experiences that would feel unwelcoming to campers outside the local cultural mainstream, so those travelers should factor that into the decision.
