Tomoka State Park Campground sits on 100 shaded sites beneath live oaks and palms along the tidal Tomoka River, just minutes from Ormond Beach. Each site includes a picnic table, grill, electric and water hookups; the campground offers hot showers, a dump station, and an on-site outpost for bait, snacks, and kayak rentals. RVs up to 34 feet can fit, though tight turns and tree clearance require careful navigation on the dirt campground roads.
Multiple camping options including developed sites with utilities and a youth group primitive site.
The park preserves the site of Nocoroco, an ancient Timucuan village along the Tomoka River. A half-mile interpretive trail passes through the village site, offering context on Indigenous use of the estuary and coastal hammock. Weather and SeasonsLate fall through early spring delivers the best camping: temperatures in the mid-60s to low-80s°F, gentle breezes, and a welcome break from mosquitoes. Spring is especially pleasant for paddling and fishing, with active bird migration, flowering understory plants, and comfortable water levels on the river. Summer and early fall bring Florida heat, humidity, and aggressive biting insects, though early mornings and evenings remain tolerable. Expect crowds on spring-break weekends and winter holidays when snowbirds fill the loops.
Natural Features and SceneryA coastal hammock canopy of live oaks draped in Spanish moss shelters the campground, with palmettos and palms filling the understory. The Tomoka River winds through salt marsh and estuary just beyond the sites, its amber-tinted water home to wading birds, ospreys, manatees, and fish. White-tailed deer browse forest edges at dawn and dusk. Many sites feel private due to thick vegetation, and full shade is common across the loops. The nearby Ormond Scenic Loop drive offers views of old-growth oaks and coastal marsh.
