Fees run $12-$30 per night. Longleaf pines, cypress, and moss-draped oaks shade paved loops near the lake, while primitive sites occupy quieter forested patches accessed by dirt roads.
Ocean Pond Campground accommodates a range of camping styles, including RV, tent, and primitive camping. A few group camping areas are also available.
Historical Significance
Olustee Battlefield sits nearby, the site of Florida's largest Civil War battle in 1864. The park hosts annual reenactments and festivals. The Trampled Track Trail passes through old turpentine forests where longleaf pines still show cat-face scars from resin harvesting operations that ran through the early 1900s.Weather and SeasonsWinter brings the best conditions. Daytime highs settle in the mid-50s to mid-60s, mornings dip into the 40s, and humidity drops enough to make hiking pleasant. Yellow flies disappear after the first frost. Waterfowl and wading birds concentrate along the lake during the cooler months, and afternoon thunderstorms become rare. Summer means heat, humidity, and aggressive biting flies that drive campers indoors by mid-morning. Rain showers arrive most afternoons from June through September.
ElevationPerched at a gentle elevation of 130 feet above sea level, the campground offers a subtle vantage point over the surrounding flatwoods ecosystem, providing natural drainage and creating the perfect microclimate for the diverse plant and wildlife communities that call this place home.
Natural Features and SceneryThe lake dominates the landscape. Longleaf pines rise over saw palmetto and live oaks, with Spanish moss hanging from branches near the water. The shoreline opens to clear views at sunset. Herons and eagles fish the shallows. The forest floor stays relatively open under the pine canopy, transitioning to denser cypress stands in wetter areas. Elevation here is 130 feet, part of Florida's low-relief Flatwoods terrain where subtle grade changes create seasonal wetlands and dry hammocks within a few hundred yards of each other.
Geological RegionSet within the vast expanse of Osceola National Forest, Ocean Pond Campground showcases the ecological richness of Florida's Flatwoods region. This remarkable landscape, characterized by its level terrain and seasonal wetlands, supports an intricate web of life around the campground's centerpiece—a stunning 1,760-acre natural lake. The surrounding forest of longleaf pines, cypress swamps, and moss-draped oaks represents one of the Southeast's most biodiverse ecosystems, where ancient geological forces have created a unique environment that sustains both aquatic and terrestrial wildlife in remarkable abundance.
