<p>Big Cimarron Campground stretches along the Big Cimarron River with sites shaded by a mix of Spruce and Cottonwood trees. There are 10 campsites with about half of the sites adjacent to the river. The campground is especially popular during hunting season. A horse corral across from the campground may be available if not being used by range permittees for ranching operation. There is no drinking water at this site, but water is available 2 miles south at the Silver Jack Campground. There are no close communities to get provisions so visitors need to bring everything they need. This is bear country. Please practice safe food storage techniques.</p>
The elevation is 8,600 ft. The campground stretches along the Big Cimarron River with about half the camp sites adjacent to the river. The sites are shaded by a mix of spruce and cottonwood trees. The parking aprons are gravel, dirt and rock. RV waste station is available at Cimarron campground (National Park Service) in Cimarron, CO.
From Cimarron, CO, take US Rt. 50 east 2.2 miles to Forest Access/ Reservoir sign. Turn right onto gravel road and go 6.1 miles to an intersection (RDP 77). Bear left onto RDP 77 (dirt - rocky and rough in places) and go 9.5 miles to campground sign. Turn right at sign into campground.

Summer offers the most reliable access and the warmest, driest weather at Big Cimarron—daytime highs are often in the mid-60s to mid-70s°F with crisp nights in the 30s–40s°F—making it ideal for camping, exploring the dramatic geology, and wildlife viewing. Wildflower meadows and open ridgelines are at their peak in July–August, and animals are most active in the cool mornings and evenings. Expect moderate crowds on summer weekends since the site is first-come, first-served, and plan for possible Peak months: July, August, September, June Avoid: December, January, February
