Best season: fall. Fall delivers the best combination of light crowds, brilliant aspen color, and stable, cool weather at 10,000 ft—perfect for hiking, fishing and photography. Daytime highs in September commonly sit in the 50s–60s°F with crisp nights often near or below freezing, reducing bugs and afternoon thunderstorm risk. Many alpine lakes hold healthy trout populations into early fall and trails are quieter, making wildlife viewing and starry nights especially rewarding. Peak months: September, August, July, June Avoid: October, November, December, January
Fall offers best combo: light crowds, brilliant aspen color and stable weather.
