The campground is closed indefinitely right now due to culvert repair, so verify it's open before making any plans. US Route 40 runs close enough that highway noise reaches the sites, and there are no hookups, showers, or flush toilets.

The elevation is 9,200 ft. The campground is a single loop in a dense stand of Engelmann spruce and other conifers. Although just off US Rt. 40, traffic noise is minimal, but the South Fork of the Clear Creek can be heard throughout the campground. This is a nice campground for an overnight stop. One pull-through may be occupied by the campground host. Good privacy between camp sites. Firewood is available from the host for a fee. This is bear country; practice safe food storage techniques.
Open May 20 through September 11. NOTE: 2018 - Campground closed for culvert repair; contact ranger district office for status.
The water spigot is a hand pump.
The parking aprons are gravel and dirt.
From Empire, CO, take US Rt. 40 west 5.9 miles to campground sign. Turn left into campground.

Summer brings the most reliable access and comfortable conditions. Daytime highs reach 60–75°F while nights drop into the 30s–40s. Trails clear of snow by early summer, and wildflowers peak mid-season. The small site count means weekends can fill, but overall crowds stay moderate compared to lower-elevation Colorado campgrounds. Early season visitors may hit lingering snow patches. Autumn mornings can bring frost.
Summer is most reliable: trails clear, comfortable temps (60–75°F), wildflowers peak.
There are no electric/water/sewer site hook-ups at this campground.
