Summer is the clear standout for Hirz Cabin because warm, long days (daytime highs typically in the upper 70s to mid-80s F, cooler nights in the 50s–60s) make Shasta Lake and the McCloud Arm prime for boating, fishing, swimming and extended hikes. Water-based activities are at their peak, trails are fully accessible, and visibility for Mount Shasta views is generally excellent; expect moderate to busy crowds on holiday weekends. Hirz Cabin, part of Shasta-Trinity National Forest, is a secluded cabin offering a range of amenities tailored to camping convenience. The cabin features a full kitchen and laundry facilities, and is powered primarily by solar panels with limited generator power during specified hours. The cabin includes 3 bedrooms (2 upstairs, 1 downstairs), 2 bathrooms, a dining table with 4 chairs, and additional seating options. "There is one ceiling fan above the dining table" and a large deck. It accommodates 6 people with 2 queen beds and 2 twin beds; additional space is available for inflatable mattresses. However, campers need to bring their own bedding. Parking is available for one boat and four cars.
