The elevation is 7,500 ft. The campground is composed of two loops. The larger loop is unnamed and is actually a series of three overlapping loops in a dense stand of Ponderosa and Jeffrey pine. While there is little understory in this loop, spacing between camp sites provides fair privacy. The second loop, known as the Lower Loop, is on an open slope of a mountainside with most sites somewhat terraced. Some of these camp sites have a view of the valley and surrounding mountains. Watch for hummingbirds; they are all over the campground.
Open late-May through mid-October
The parking aprons are paved. Trailers and large motor homes are not recommended in camp sites 46 through 59 - steep grades and narrow, sharp curves. Los Padres National Forest 193

Best season: summer. Summer offers the most reliable, pleasant weather and full access to the campground (typical daytime highs in the mid-60s to mid-70s°F and evenings cooling to the low-to-mid 50s°F), making hiking and mountain biking the most enjoyable. Trails are dry and accessible, wildlife is active at dawn and dusk, and panoramic valley views are at their clearest. Crowds are moderate on weekends but still manageable compared with lower-elevation parks, so you get comfortable conditions without heavy traffic. Peak months: July, August, September, June Avoid: November, December, January, February
Peak season (May 15–Oct 31) with reliable cool temps, dry trails and highest popularity.
