You need showers, generous site spacing, or significant shade coverage at your campsite.
Context for the broader area surrounding Indian Well Campground, sourced from the federal Recreation.gov rec-area record.
Lava Beds National Monument is a land of turmoil, both geological and historical. Over the last half-million years, volcanic eruptions on the Medicine Lake shield volcano have created a rugged landscape dotted with diverse volcanic features. More than 800 caves, Native American rock art sites, historic battlefields and campsites, and a high desert wilderness experience await you!
Lava Beds is a truly remote park, in a corner of California most people never visit. Most roads into this area wind through mountains, and along rivers, and travel may take longer than expected. Services are few and far between and winter driving conditions can be encountered anytime between fall and spring.
Compare with similar sites, watch availability, and build a packing list — Camp Sage handles all of it.

This is when all facilities (except seasonal closures of Loop B later in the year) are open, trails are dry, and the lava tube caves and interpretive sites are easiest to explore. Nights are excellent for stargazing and campfires (subject to fire restrictions), though camp Peak months: July, August, September, June Avoid: December, January, February
Most reliable conditions; all facilities open and trails dry in summer.
