No potable water, no trash service, and a rough unmaintained trail to the creek are the baseline here. Add the current road washout closure, and anyone without confirmed access should hold off on booking plans entirely.

During the Great Depression the Civilian Conservation Corps built a camp here for the crews building the Greyback Road. Later it became a fire guard station and camp for fire crews and finally a public campground. The 10 family campsites are scattered along the West Branch of Indian Creek. There is lots of shade and camping guidebooks refer to it as quiet, secluded and tranquil.

CLOSED DUE TO ROAD WASH OUT

The elevation is 2,200 ft. The campground, pack it in, pack it out, is a single loop through a stand of mature Douglas fir, Pacific Madrone, and cedar. The West Branch of Indian Creek runs along one side, while Indian Creek flows along another. Although neither creek is visible from campground, both can be heard. Tranquil and quiet are words often used to describe this campground. Most every campsite is complemented with a Klamath Stove. This is bear country; practice safe food storage techniques.
Open May 15 through October 15
The parking aprons are gravel. The interior road is gravel and rock. An RV waste station, with potable water, is available for a fee in Happy Camp.
In Happy Camp, CA, at the intersection of State Rt. 96 and Davis Rd., take Davis Rd. north 11.8 miles to campground sign. Turn right at sign onto a single-lane dirt and gravel road and go 0.4 miles to campground.

Summer offers the warmest weather for creekside activities. Expect daytime highs around 70–85°F and cool nights in the mid-40s to low-50s. By July and August, the creek is usually low enough for safe wading and pool swimming. Trails are dry, and the lush green forest takes over from late spring wildflowers. Weekends in July and August fill up, but with only 12 sites, crowd levels stay relatively low. The campground sits at 2,200 feet.
Summer highs 70–85°F; creek low enough by July/Aug for safe swimming and quiet camping.
Water and garbage service are not provided. Bring enough water for drinking, cooking and washing as well as extra water to drown campfires each day.
