Go if

Anglers and anyone wanting a simple riverside base near Sonora Pass will find this hard to beat in summer. Sites are shaded by Jeffrey pines, the host keeps things genuinely clean, and firewood is sold on-site. Just bring all your own water.

Skip if

No potable water on-site is a real logistics problem if you're not prepared to haul it in. The picnic tables are worn, the info board has outdated fishing regulations (verify current rules before you go), and the campground closes by mid-September.
