Best season: summer. Summer offers the best combination of mild weather, long daylight, and full access to the Dalton Highway and nearby Yukon River — expect daytime highs commonly between 50–75°F and near-continuous daylight in June/early July. This is prime time for roadside camping, river fishing, day hikes into the boreal forest, wildlife viewing, and using the campground's potable artesian water and picnic/fire facilities. Crowds remain light compared with road-accessed parks farther south, but expect increased Peak months: July, June, August Avoid: December, January, February

Newly improved in 2022, Five Mile Campground provides a vault toilet, potable water from an artesian well, the only RV dump station along the Dalton Highway, and seven gravel campsites each equipped with a picnic table and fire ring. A campground host may be present from late May to early September.
