Best season: summer. Summer offers the most reliable combination of mild weather (daytime highs generally in the mid-40s to mid-60s °F / 7–18 °C), very long daylight, and the peak of the Copper River salmon run and glacier-access activities. Trails are most accessible, the glacier calving and riverside scenery are dramatic, and wildlife viewing (including bears and eagles around salmon) is at its height. Expect moderate crowds for a small, tent-only campground—all eleven sites can fill on good weather days—so plan & Peak months: July, August, June, September Avoid: December, January, February

The campground is now suited for tents only. A portion of the campground and associated recreation area continues to be maintained, though trash must be packed out. There is a large covered viewing platform and covered pavilion, information boards, picnic tables, vault toilets, and a hiking trail. Drinking water is provided at hand pumps.
