<p>A campground in the Sierra Madre Range that sees medium use in the summer and fall. Facilities include 16 campsites, 4 are pull-through sites, picnic tables, fire rings, vault toilets, trash service and water. The campground has a 14 day stay limit.<a href="https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/mbr/recarea/?recid=22526"> Jack Creek Guard Station</a> and <a href="https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/mbr/recarea/?recid=22524">Jack Creek Crew Quarters</a> are nearby. This campground has primitive roads in the area for OHV riding. Both motorized and non-motorized portions of the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail are also in the vicinity.</p><div class="usa-alert usa-alert--info usa-alert--slim"><div class="usa-alert__body"><p class="usa-alert__text">This site was approved for a fee change - <a class="usa-link" href="https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/mbr/fire/?cid=FSEPRD1092198">Click here for more information</a></p></div></div>
The elevation is 8,500 ft. The campground is a single loop with one side running along Jack Creek. The entrance to the campground is through a large meadow while the sites are tucked in among mature, widely spaced Lodgepole pines. Although the drive to the campground is long, it is very scenic with many delightful vistas of surrounding lowlands. Nearby is the Jack Creek Ranger Station. It is on the Register of National Historic Places and was built during 1933 and 1934. Visit the Ranger Station for a glimpse into the life of a Forest Ranger.

From Encampment, WY, take State Rt. 70 west 24 miles to Deep Creek Rd. (Forest Rt. 801) sign. Turn right onto Rt. 801 (also known as County Rt. 801 - gravel) and go 7.4 miles to campground sign (Forest Rt. 830). Turn right onto Rt. 830 (gravel) and go 13.7 miles to stop sign (Forest Rt. 452). Turn left onto Rt. 452 and go 2 miles to campground sign. Turn left into campground. Forest Rt. 830 is closed from May 15 through June 15 for the elk calving season. NOTE: An alternative route is taking Forest Rt. 443 (6.3 miles west from Encampment off State Rt. 70) 26 miles on a single-lane "improved dirt road." This route is not recommended for low-clearance vehicles or RVs.

Visitor opportunities abound on almost 2.9 million acres of National Forest System lands.</p> <p>The Medicine Bow and Routt National Forests provide year-round recreation opportunities for you. These activities include hiking, biking, camping, horseriding, OHV riding, fishing and hunting, just to name a few. Beautiful vistas await sightseers and photographers.</p> <p>The topography varies greatly within the national forests. Elevation ranges from 5,500 to 12,940 feet. The climate ranges from semi-arid at low elevations to colder and less arid in the high country. Frost may occur at any time, and visitors to the higher elevations should be prepared for harsh weather, including snow and high winds, even during the summer months.</p> <p>The Thunder Basin National Grassland provides unique opportunities for recreation, including hiking, sightseeing, hunting, and fishing. There are no developed campgrounds; however, dispersed camping is allowed. Elevation on the national grassland ranges from 3,600 to 5,200 feet, and the climate is semi-arid.</p> <p><strong><strong>The following recreation conditions report includes a sampling of our recreation sites. Best season: summer. Summer offers the clearest access and the most reliable weather at this 8,400 ft mountain campground — expect pleasant daytime highs around 65–75°F and crisp nights near 40–45°F. Trails, alpine lakes, and Jack Creek are fully accessible, putting hiking, fishing (brook and cutthroat trout), biking, and wildlife viewing at their peak; wildflower displays are strongest in July. Crowds are moderate (weekends fill faster), so plan reservations—campground is open June 1–Sept 7—and pack layers and sun/ Peak months: July, August, June, September Avoid: October, November, December, January
