Natural Features and SceneryThe campground weaves through Sherman granite formations that have been shaped over millions of years into soaring cliffs, balanced boulders, and surreal towers. This 1.4-billion-year-old stone glows pink and gold depending on the light. Limber pine grows from rocky crevices while stands of Engelmann spruce, Douglas fir, and aspen soften the edges of the dramatic rock landscape. Trails lead from camp to meadows, beaver ponds, and quieter forest sections that contrast sharply with the exposed granite formations overhead. Reviewers consistently describe the scenery as beautiful and unlike anything else, with the rock formations themselves being the main draw.
