<p>Hunter Campground is popular with pack and saddle stock users. The campground offers corrals, hitching rails, and an accessible mounting ramp. It is conveniently located near many trails that access to the <a href="http://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/bighorn/recarea/?recid=80618">Cloud Peak Wilderness</a> and the Rock Creek recommended wilderness area.</p>

Best season: summer. Summer offers the best access and weather for backpacking Cloud Peak Wilderness, day hikes from camp, and high-elevation fishing; daytime highs at 7,800 ft typically range from the mid-60s to mid-70s°F with cool nights in the 30s–40s. Wildflowers, open meadows and maximum trail access coincide with the campground being open (June 1–Sept 30), and horseback routes are fully usable. Afternoon thunderstorms and occasional wildfire smoke can occur, but crowds remain moderate compared with lower-elev. The Hunter Campground is well-equipped with amenities tailored to equestrian campers but open to all campers. Each of its 11 campsites includes a 20x20 ft hardened use pad, a picnic table, a utility table, a fire ring, and an individual livestock corral. Additionally, the campground provides a pressurized solar water system for potable water and is ADA accessible, including a horse-mounting ramp. A non-fee portion of the site offers a trailhead with parking for 15 single vehicles and 18 vehicles with trailers, as well as a separate area for Outfitter/Guide parking.
