Ascending to 14,410 feet above sea level, Mount Rainier stands as an icon in the Washington landscape. An active volcano, Mount Rainier is the most glaciated peak in the contiguous U.S.A., spawning five major rivers. Subalpine wildflower meadows ring the icy volcano while ancient forest cloaks Mount Rainier’s lower slopes. Wildlife abounds in the park’s ecosystems. A lifetime of discovery awaits.

Best season: summer. Summer offers the most reliable access and the best weather for exploring Paradise and the surrounding trails — daytime highs commonly sit between about 60–80°F with cool nights around the low 40s–50s. Wildflower meadows, full trail access (including higher-elevation routes), glacier views and long daylight hours make hiking and wildlife viewing at their peak. Expect the busiest conditions of the year and book a site early: peak reservations run June 24–September 7 and sites fill quickly on warm Peak months: July, August, June, September Avoid: November, December, January, February

There is no working dump station at Cougar Rock. There are no electric, water or sewer hook-ups available at individual campsites. Potable water are located near the campground entrance.
