Best season: spring. Late spring (mid-May through June) offers the best combination of comfortable temperatures (mornings in the mid-40s to 50s°F, afternoons typically 60–75°F), calm early mornings for fishing and wildlife viewing, and leafy shade from the mature trees. Water levels and winds are usually moderate—mornings are glassy for casting or a quiet paddle, while predictable afternoon breezes make boating and sailing fun without the full summer heat. Crowds are lower than peak summer weekends, and wildflowers/ Peak months: May, June, July, August Avoid: October, November, December, January
Overview and reviews call spring the best season: comfortable temps, calmer mornings and fishing.
