Best season: fall. Fall offers the most striking scenery and reliably pleasant hiking weather — expect daytime highs around 50–65°F and crisp nights in the 30s–40s at 2,782 ft, with peak leaf color typically in October. Trails and overlooks are ideal for wildlife viewing and photography as the oaks and maples blaze color and the understory thins; bugs are reduced and mornings are clear. Note that Skyline Drive and Dundo can get busy during peak foliage weekends, so reserve a group site early and plan weekday trips Peak months: October, September, May, June Avoid: November, December, January, February
