Best season: summer. Summer offers the warmest, most accessible conditions for hiking and exploring the CCC-era history here: expect daytime highs around 75–85°F and cool nights in the 50s–60s under the deep oak canopy. Trails are dry and fully open, the forest canopy provides excellent shade for long day hikes and campfires, and interpretive features tied to the Civilian Conservation Corps are easiest to visit. Expect moderate weekend use (more on holiday weekends) but generally quieter than large developed parks,— Peak months: June, July, August, September Avoid: November, December, January, February
Summer best: 75–85°F days, cool nights, shaded sites; trails dry and accessible.
