Closure status is genuinely uncertain, one reviewer found overnight camping shut down entirely due to the 2017 Brianhead fire. Call ahead. Also, there's no trash service, no electric hookups, and lake-adjacent sites with the best positions prohibit campfires.

Summer is the reliable window here. Daytime highs sit around 60–75°F, but nights drop into the mid-30s to mid-40s, so bring warm layers. Trails and boat launches are fully open, and wildflowers hit their stride in late June and July. Crowds stay moderate except on holiday weekends. Winter closes the campground under snow for months. Spring comes late at 8,500 feet. Fall is brief but brings gold aspens before the cold returns.
Summer is the most popular season; trails and boat launches fully open and wildflowers bloom.
