Equestrian Campground serves riders and their horses in Dixie National Forest, just north of Pine Valley Mountain Wilderness. The campground has 18 sites (11 single, 4 double, 1 multi-site) with dedicated horse facilities: a parking loop, hitching rails, portable corrals, and a large corral with a watering trough. Sites run $17-34 per night and accommodate up to 8 people (single) or 16 people (double).
The Pine Valley Equestrian Campground is specifically designed for horse camping but also accommodates tent and group camping. RV camping is not feasible due to the lack of hookups.
Weather and SeasonsSummer (early May through late September) brings the most reliable access and warmest conditions. Daytime highs reach 70-85°F at this elevation, with cool nights dropping into the 40s-50s. Trails and corrals are fully usable. Fishing in nearby streams is productive. Mountain biking and long rides into the Pine Valley foothills peak during this window. Spring can surprise visitors with snow and freezing temperatures well into May. Holiday weekends (Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day) see higher visitation, but the campground otherwise offers plenty of space.
ElevationPerched at an invigorating 6,800 feet above sea level, this mountain retreat offers a refreshing escape from the heat of lower elevations. The altitude creates a delightfully cool climate perfect for summer camping, though wise visitors pack extra layers for those crisp mountain evenings. Early and late-season campers should be prepared for Mother Nature's alpine moods, as snow can dust the landscape when you least expect it.
Natural Features and SceneryThe campground sits at 6,800 feet in a transitional zone where ponderosa pine forests meet pinyon and juniper woodlands. Sage meadows spread between scattered groves of ponderosas and Gamble oaks. The vanilla-scented bark of old ponderosas contrasts with the silvery-green sage that carpets open areas. Gamble oaks shift from vibrant green in summer to gold in fall. The Pine Valley Mountains rise to the south, and Pine Valley Reservoir sits nearby.
