Weather and SeasonsBest season: summer. Summer offers the best window for backcountry hikers: long daylight hours, reliably warm daytime temperatures (typically mid-60s to mid-80s°F) and largely ice-free trails, making the hike-in to primitive sites easier. This is when water crossings are lower than spring peak flows and wild areas are fully green, so hiking, exploring side trails, and cooling off in small streams are at their peak. Expect increased humidity and mosquitoes, but overall summer provides the most comfortable conditions,
