<p>Looking for a family-oriented campground tucked away in a mountain cove? Paint Creek Campground, located in Greene County along the banks of Paint Creek is the place! Most of the widely-spaced campsites have streamside views and are well screened with native vegetation. While visiting, try your hand at fishing for trout in Paint Creek (seasonally stocked).</p><p><strong><a href="http://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/fseprd772181.jpg">Paint Creek Campground Map</a></strong></p>
The elevation is 1,820 ft. The campground is heavily wooded and adjacent to Paint Creek. It is secluded and well laid out. This is bear country; practice safe food storage techniques.
Open May 1 through November 15.
The water spigot is a hand pump.

From Greeneville, TN, take State Rt. 70 south 10.2 miles to Paint Creek campground sign (Rollins Chapel Rd.). Turn right onto Rollins Chapel Rd. and go 1.3 miles to Lower Paint Creek Rd. Turn left onto Lower Paint Creek Rd. and go 1.7 miles to campground. NOTE: At 1.1 miles, Lower Paint Creek Rd. becomes a dirt and gravel single-lane road with turnouts. It is steep in places with washboard surfaces.

Fall offers the best combination of cool, stable weather and spectacular Appalachian color — daytime highs typically range from the mid-50s to upper-60s°F with crisp nights in the mid-30s to mid-40s°F. Leaf-peeping, hiking, wildlife viewing, and trout fishing are at their peak as hemlocks and mountain laurels contrast with brilliant maples and oaks; mosquitoes and biting flies are largely absent. Expect busy weekends during peak color (mid-September to mid-October), so plan weekday trips or book Peak months: October, September, July, August Avoid: November, December, January, February

Paint Creek Campground offers a mix of basic and nature-focused amenities that cater to campers looking for a rustic experience in the Cherokee National Forest. Visitors will find 20 single occupancy campsites, with 3 designated as tent-only (sites 13, 14, and 16). Drinking water is conveniently available at the center of the campground, and there are two vault toilets, one in each loop. The campsites are spacious, with many offering streamside views and privacy due to natural vegetation like rhododendrons, hemlocks, and laurels. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. Notably, the campground lacks showers and electrical hookups, and trash services are limited to two dumpsters.
