Go if

Kayakers, canoeists, and shore fishermen who want to roll out of the tent and be on the water in minutes. Summer is the sweet spot, July and August fill fast, so book early. The creek feeds straight into Mahoning Creek Lake, keeping paddling calm and beginner-friendly.

Skip if

Winter camping is a non-starter here, scoring just 2/5 for the season. If waterfront access isn't on your list, the campground's main draw disappears, and there's not much else pulling weight.

About Mahoning Creek Lake

Context for the broader area surrounding Milton Loop Campground, sourced from the federal Recreation.gov rec-area record.

Situated among steep sided valleys and forested hillsides, Mahoning Creek Lake is surrounded by breathtaking scenery. Blessed with clean water and a varied thriving fish population. In 1971, one of the largest Northern Pike ever recorded (42-7/8?) was reeled in from the waters below Mahoning Dam. Mahoning is also known for its abundant Turkey and Ruffed Grouse populations.

Directions

Mahoning Creek Lake is only 12 miles southeast of New Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and 7 miles northwest of Dayton, Pennsylvania. Follow the brown Mahoning Lake directional signs to the project.
