Best season: fall. Fall delivers the best mix of clear, calm weather and minimal bugs — daytime highs are often in the 50s–70°F (10–25°C) in September with crisp nights dropping into the 30s°F (0–5°C), making paddling, hiking, and biking especially pleasant. Mosquito activity fades by late August/early September so beaches and camp kitchens are far more enjoyable, and the lake often mirrors the surrounding peaks for perfect photography. Crowds thin after Labor Day, so you get prime access to Waldo Lake's famously‑ Peak months: September, October, August Avoid: December, January, February
Late Aug–Sept recommended: mosquitoes fade, mild temps and excellent mirrored-lake conditions reported.
