No potable water on site is a real logistical issue. You'll need to drive to Indian Crossing or Ollokot campgrounds to fill up, so bring enough capacity to make that trip worthwhile. Also, the final 7 miles on Forest Road 3960 will give big RVs trouble.

Best season: summer. Summer is the clear pick because Hidden Campground is open June through September and offers the warm, reliably dry weather needed to enjoy riverside camping in Hells Canyon. Expect daytime highs roughly in the 70s–90s°F and cool nights dropping into the 40s–60s°F, ideal for sleeping under the stars and gathering at the river. Riverside access, scenic drives along the Hells Canyon Byway, wildlife viewing, and roomy summer hiking opportunities are at their peak; expect the busiest weekends in mid Peak months: July, August, June, September Avoid: October, November, December, January
