Boulder Park Campground sits at the Main Eagle Trailhead along Wild and Scenic Eagle Creek, where forested valleys meet the granite peaks of the Wallowa Mountains. The seven-site campground caters primarily to horse packers with a loading ramp, star bunk feeders for 6-8 head, and trailer parking, though hikers claim sites here too.
Boulder Park Campground contains seven sites and is particularly set up for users with pack and riding stock; campers without stock are welcome but may prefer Two Color Campground three miles down the road. The campground is accessed via a narrow winding forest road and is used primarily June through October.
Weather and SeasonsBest season: summer. Summer offers the most reliable access and the best trail conditions after mountain snowmelt, with warm days and cool nights ideal for hiking and packing horses. Expect daytime highs roughly 60–80°F and nighttime lows in the 30s–50s, depending on elevation, with wildflower displays in June–July and low chance of late storms. Camps are busiest in July–August but the intimate seven-site layout keeps the experience quiet compared with lower-elevation recreation areas.
Peak months: July, August, September, June
Avoid: November, December, January, February
Natural Features and SceneryEagle Creek flows past camp on its way down from the Eagle Cap Wilderness, its rush constant through the forest canopy. The Wallowa Mountains rise in the distance, their granite faces shaped by ancient glaciers and volcanic activity. The campground occupies a transitional zone between lower valleys and alpine terrain. From here, the Main Eagle Trail climbs toward backcountry lakes and wildflower meadows above the treeline.
