Summer is the best time to visit Buckhorn Loop D because Lake of the Arbuckles is at its most inviting for swimming, boating, and warm-weather fishing; expect daytime highs typically in the mid-80s to mid-90s°F (roughly 85–95°F) with humid evenings cooling to the mid-60s to low-70s°F. Water recreation and long daylight hours make it ideal for paddling from the Buckhorn boat launch, shoreline fishing, and late-evening wildlife viewing; however, weekends and holiday periods are noticeably busier,, Peak months: June, July, August, September

Loop D is open year-round. It has 51 campsites including 3 accessible sites. All sites are first come, first served. Modern restrooms and showers are available to campers in this campground. A dump station can be found on Buckhorn Road outside of the campground.
