Historical Significance
The 200-acre old-growth forest known as the Big Woods was declared a National Natural Landmark in 1967.Weather and SeasonsThe camp welcomes groups throughout the year, with off-peak season running from November 1 through April 1. Even during the quieter winter months, water remains available, making this an excellent choice for cold-weather camping adventures when the forest takes on a peaceful, snow-dusted beauty and the lake reflects crisp autumn colors or winter skies.
Natural Features and SceneryYour group will camp within reach of one of Ohio's natural treasures—an ancient beech-maple forest where some trees have stood for over 400 years. The 625-acre Acton Lake stretches out before you, offering endless opportunities for boating, fishing, and wildlife watching. Miles of trails wind through the heavily wooded landscape, including paths through the Big Woods, a designated state nature preserve where towering trees create a cathedral-like canopy overhead. Whether you're gathering around the campfire or exploring the lakeside trails, you'll find yourselves surrounded by the kind of scenery that makes Ohio's state parks special.
