Trailers over 24 feet will have a hard time on the tight loop and road turns. A few sites sit close enough to Highway 108 to hear traffic, and at least one visitor arrived to find the water system down, so carry extra drinking water as backup.

<p>Leavitt Meadows Campground is nestled amidst Jeffrey Pines alongside the West Walker River. Nearby Leavitt Meadows Trailhead is the starting point for a horse or foot trail along the West Walker River into an area of lake-filled basins. Many climbers use this trail to approach Tower Peak, which offers both technical climbs and scrambles. A permit is required for overnight use of the West Walker River area.</p>
The elevation is 7,300 ft. The campground is a single loop above West Walker River. Although campground has Jeffrey pine and juniper trees, Aspen provide shade and screen for the camp sites. Near the Leavitt Meadow trail head, campground is a good base camp to explore the proposed add-on to the established Hoover Wilderness. A good day trip is a drive across the Sonora Pass. The parking aprons and interior road are dirt. With a 26 percent grade on State Rt. 108, RVs should NOT use the road as a through way to the west side of Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. However, access to this campground is okay.
From Walker, CA, take US Rt. 395 south 12.8 miles to State Rt. 108 sign. Turn right at sign onto Rt.108 (access to Sonora Pass) and go 7 miles to campground sign. Turn left at sign into campground.

The Leavitt Meadows campground has small RV (less than 24 feet in length) and tent friendly sites. All sites offer picnic tables, campfire rings, and food storage lockers. The campground has vault toilets, drinking water, and garbage service. Firewood is available for purchase from the host.
