RV campers who need shade will bake on the open oval loop in summer, and primitive sites have no shower access. Alcohol is prohibited park-wide, and mosquitoes and horseflies can be relentless from May through September.
Compare with similar sites, watch availability, and build a packing list — Camp Sage handles all of it.
Fall delivers the park's best conditions: daytime temperatures in the mid-60s to mid-70s°F, lower humidity, and fewer mosquitoes than summer. Migratory birds pass through, marsh grasses turn golden, and the Pamlico River sees less boat traffic. Summer brings heat, humidity, and bugs. Bring spray if you visit between May and September. Spring offers mild hiking weather starting in March, before the crowds arrive.
Fall noted as best: cooler temps (mid-60s/70s), lower humidity and fewer mosquitoes.
