The Loran/Claiborne Camp is provided for camping with ATV's and motorcycles. The Claiborne Trails are located in the Old Camp Claiborne where over 500,000 troops trained for World War 2 and was the third largest city in Louisiana during those war years.

The trails are available for ATV, motorcycle, and horse use. Hiking and biking are also allowed on the trail; however, they are primarily used for motorized and equestrian riders. The Ahtus Melder Camp is used by equestrian riders utilizing the Claiborne Trails.

Camping at Loran Campground is very primitive with no water available. There are trash receptacles and vault restrooms available, along with posted regulations and instructions at the day-use parking area which is located right next to the campsites.

Best season: fall. Fall offers the best combination of comfortable weather and low crowds — expect crisp, stable days with daytime highs often in the 50s–70s°F (10–25°C) and cool nights in the 40s–50s°F (4–12°C). Trails are at their most pleasant for hiking and biking (fewer bugs, less dust), and foliage or late-season color can make routes especially scenic. Because Loran Camp is first-come, first-served, fall weekdays and midseason weekends are the easiest times to score a preferred site without the summer rush; Peak months: October, September, June, July
Fall temps 50s–70s, bugs drop and trails dry—reviews call it the best window.
