Winter offers the most comfortable conditions for exploring Apalachicola National Forest around Camel Lake — expect mild days in the mid-50s to mid-60s°F and cool nights around the low-40s to 50°F, with far fewer mosquitoes and biting insects. Cooler, drier weather makes hiking, biking, birding and paddling especially pleasant, and the campground is at its quietest outside holiday weekends. Fishing and wildlife viewing are excellent as many birds use forest wetlands in cooler months and lake use Peak months: January, February, April, November
