You want a full-service base camp in Yosemite Valley with easy trail access and don't mind close neighbors.
You need site privacy, guaranteed quiet, or can't plan far enough ahead to secure a competitive reservation.
Context for the broader area surrounding North Pines Campground, sourced from the federal Recreation.gov rec-area record.
Not just a great valley, but a shrine to human foresight, the strength of granite, the power of glaciers, the persistence of life, and the tranquility of the High Sierra. First protected in 1864, Yosemite National Park is best known for its waterfalls, but within its nearly 1,200 square miles, you can find deep valleys, grand meadows, ancient giant sequoias, a vast wilderness area, and much more.
You can drive to Yosemite year-round and enter via Highways 41, 140, and 120 from the west. Tioga Pass Entrance (via Highway 120 from the east) is closed from approximately November through late May or June. Hetch Hetchy is open all year but may close intermittently due to snow. Please note that GPS units do not always provide accurate directions to or within Yosemite.
Compare with similar sites, watch availability, and build a packing list — Camp Sage handles all of it.
Best season: summer. Summer delivers reliably warm, comfortable days (mid 60s–mid 70s °F at valley floor) and cool nights (around 45–55 °F), with full campground services and all valley trails, bridges, and shuttle service operating. Water-based fun — swimming and wading in the Merced River and easy access to Mist Trail and Yosemite Falls viewpoints — is at its peak, and most backcountry and high country routes are snow-free. Expect heavy crowds and reservation-only access, so plan and book early; note occasional H2 Peak months: July, August, September, June Avoid: November, December, January, February
Open into Oct; generally fewer crowds and good light/colors though waterfalls can diminish later in season.
