Best season: winter. Winter at Appletree offers crisp, clear days and a quieter mountain experience — daytime highs commonly range from the upper 30s to mid-40s °F with nights below freezing — making it ideal for snow play, peaceful hikes, and dramatic snowy vistas along the Angeles Crest. Proximity to Wrightwood and nearby snow-recreation areas means you can combine campsite relaxation with snowshoeing or a short drive to groomed runs; trails are less crowded and wildlife is easier to spot against the winter light. Peak months: January, February, August, July
Winter is a major draw: abundant snow, excellent sledding and frequent positive winter reviews.
Grills, picnic tables, pit (vault) toilets, and drinking water are provided. Remote parking for one vehicle is available in a shared parking lot a few hundred feet from the campsites; firewood can be purchased from the host at nearby Mountain Oak Campground.
