Best season: summer. Summer offers the fullest access to Bullards Bar Reservoir — warm, sunny days (typically mid 80s to low 90s°F, nights in the 50s–60s) that make boating, swimming, and shoreline fishing ideal. Water recreation is at its peak, boat ramps and day-use areas are fully active, and trails are dry and easy for biking and hiking. Expect higher crowds on holiday weekends and be prepared for mosquitoes in shaded, still-water coves and possible regional smoke or fire restrictions during drought years. Peak months: July, August, June, September Avoid: November, December, January, February
Off-peak fall offers quieter visits with continued access to trails and lake activities.

The Schoolhouse Campground, part of the Bullards Bar Reservoir, offers a variety of amenities surrounded by conifer and hardwood forests. Campsites are shaded and equipped with standard features. There are no utility hookups or showers available, and the campground lacks a dump station, but restrooms are a mix of flush and vault toilets. Cell phone reception is available, and potable water can be accessed via water spigots spread throughout the campground. However, there are no shower facilities on site. Firewood is locally available, and campers are encouraged to use firewood on-site to protect against pests. Pet-friendly policies are in place, and amenities such as picnic tables and fire rings are provided at campsites. The area is maintained with paved parking and roads, ensuring accessibility to the sites.
