Best season: fall. Fall offers the most spectacular reasons to visit — brilliant Appalachian hardwood color, crisp daytime highs in the mid-40s to mid-60s°F and cool, starlit nights in the 30s–40s, making the open Burnwood meadow and canyon overlooks ideal for photography and comfortable hiking. Trails, overlooks at the Canyon Rim Visitor Center and New River Gorge access are at their scenic peak, and the air is generally drier and less buggy than summer. Expect higher visitation on weekend leaf-peeping dates, but Peak months: October, September, November, May
Called out as best season for 'brilliant Appalachian hardwood color' and crisp, starlit nights.
Burnwood Group Campsite offers minimal amenities suitable for groups. It features flush toilets available year-round but lacks showers, potable water, and a camp store. The site does not provide internet connectivity, firewood for purchase, or staff on-site regularly. Cell phone reception is available year-round, although coverage is noted as spotty. Trash and recycling facilities are provided year-round, and existing fire rings must be used for any fires.
