Bowl and Pitcher sits within Riverside State Park's 9,194 acres along the Spokane and Little Spokane rivers, about 30 minutes from downtown Spokane. The campground offers 40 sites with full hookups and easy access to 80 miles of trails. Fees range from $5 to $45 per night, and sites book up quickly on summer weekends.
Developed campground with a mix of river-adjacent sites and other loops; accommodates both tent and RV camping according to official amenities and visitor reports.
Weather and SeasonsSummer delivers the best camping conditions. Daytime highs run 75–90°F with nights in the 50s and 60s. River levels drop after spring runoff, making swimming and paddling safer and more accessible. Precipitation is minimal June through August. July and August bring the heaviest crowds, especially on weekends. Winter transforms the park into a quiet landscape for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing, though campground facilities are limited.
Natural Features and SceneryThe Spokane River cuts through ancient basalt formations here, creating the dramatic rock pillars that give Bowl and Pitcher its name. A suspension bridge spans the river near the main day-use area. The campground sits at 1,726 feet elevation among ponderosa pine and Douglas fir. Deer appear regularly at dawn, and raptors hunt over open meadows between forested sections. Wetlands along the Little Spokane River draw waterfowl and songbirds. The river corridor alternates between calm pools and faster riffles over basalt shelves.
