The ancient geologic landscape of the upper Columbia River cradles Lake Roosevelt in walls of stone carved by massive ice age floods. Come explore the shorelines and learn the stories of American Indians, traders and trappers, settlers and dam builders who called this place home. Swim, boat, hike, camp, and fish at this hidden gem in Northeast Washington, created by the Grand Coulee Dam.

Best season: summer. Summer offers the warmest, most reliable weather for lakeside recreation — expect daytime highs in the mid-70s to low-90s°F (roughly 75–92°F) and cool nights around 50–60°F. Water-based activities are at their peak: boating, swimming, waterskiing, and shoreline fishing are most enjoyable when the lake is warm and boat ramps are fully usable. Expect higher visitor levels on holiday weekends and early August, but services and facilities are fully available and the long daylight hours make it easy, Peak months: July, August, September, June Avoid: December, January, February
Shoulder season is quieter and still pleasant for boating/fishing as crowds thin.
