Best season: summer. Summer offers warm, water-friendly weather (daytime highs typically in the mid-70s to mid-90s°F at ~1,000 ft elevation) and is when Philpott Lake is busiest and most active — perfect for swimming, boating, paddleboarding, and shoreline fishing. Long daylight hours mean more time for hiking to overlooks and evening wildlife viewing along the wooded shorelines. Expect higher weekend crowds and occasional afternoon thunderstorms, so plan weekday trips or early-morning launches for a quieter visit. Peak months: July, August, June, September
