Go if

Equestrians, mountain bikers, and backpackers who self-supply everything will get the most from the multi-use trail system here. Spring is the sweet spot: wildflowers, flowing creeks, bearable temps. At $6/night plus a daily entrance fee, it's cheap for what it delivers.

Skip if

No potable water on-site means hauling in everything you'll drink and cook with. No showers either. Summer heat scores a 2.5/5 for good reason. The park fills fast and gates close for floods or hunts, so call ahead and have a backup plan.
