There are 10 Corps of Engineers parks, one state park, and three additional parks managed by Hill County or private individuals. Equestrian riders have a great place to explore rolling hills and woods in the McCown Valley Equestrian Area. Hopewell Trail, a 12.5 mile equestrian riding and multi-use trail that winds along the lake and through wildlife areas was opened in 2002. Trail riders can access the trail and stay overnight at the equestrian camping area at Plowman Creek Park.

Water levels and water temperatures are ideal for fishing, boating, and early-season swimming, and wildflowers/green hills make hiking and wildlife viewing especially rewarding. Lofers Bend East Campground offers a range of amenities tailored towards family camping and recreation. The campground has 66 campsites, including six 'water-only' sites and the rest equipped with water and 30-amp electrical hookups. "All sites have either a stand-up BBQ grill or a ground cooker/fire ring," making it ideal for cooking outdoors. Other amenities include "flushable toilets, showers, drinking water, a trailer dump station, and two boat ramps." Additionally, a playground is available for children.
