Best season: fall. Fall offers the best combination of comfortable temperatures (daytime highs typically 50–70°F, nights in the 30s–50s), spectacular hardwood foliage, and firm trail conditions for horse riding. Trails through Cherokee National Forest are at their most colorful and crowdedness is moderate — weekends see more equestrian groups but sites remain roomy due to the campground’s large, horse-friendly lots. Riding, scenic photography, and late-season fishing are at their peak while biting insects decline. Peak months: October, September, November, May
Fall offers best riding conditions and peak hardwood foliage (October).
