Dougherty Campground, Hells Canyon National Recreation Area
Tent campers who bring all their own water and want a quiet base for exploring Hells Canyon NRA without paying for amenities they don't need. Summer nights drop into the 30s, so pack layers. Berry picking and dark skies are the real draws.
No potable water on-site is a hard stop for anyone not prepared to haul it in. RV campers also get only 4 sites to choose from, and gravel road access means big rigs should think twice before committing.

Summer brings daytime highs in the mid-60s to mid-80s °F with cool nights dropping into the mid-30s to low-50s °F. Dry conditions and wildflower displays peak during these months. The small site count keeps crowds lighter than larger campgrounds in the area, though summer weekends fill up. Spring and fall see progressively colder nights.
