No showers, no flush toilets, and Forest Road 39 stays snowed in through late May or early June, if primitive means roughing it more than you'd like, the valley campgrounds near Joseph will suit you better.

Summer offers reliably warm, dry weather and full access to Twin Lakes and the Wallowa Loop Road, making it the best time to hike into the Eagle Cap Wilderness and fish from the lakeside boardwalks. Expect daytime highs roughly 60–75°F and cool nights in the mid-30s to mid-40s°F; trails are mostly snow-free from mid‑June through September. Fishing, hiking Trail #1874, and star-filled evenings are at their peak, with moderate crowds concentrated July–August but far fewer visitors than lower-elev Peak months: July, August, September, June Avoid: October, November, December, January
