Best season: summer. Summer (mid-May through September) is the best time to visit because the campground is officially open and you get the warm daytime hiking and biking weather at 7,400 ft without the lower-elevation heat. Expect daytime highs commonly in the mid-60s to mid-80s°F and crisp nights in the 40s–50s°F, ideal for campfires and stargazing; the accessible Robin and Jay sites make group trips easy. Summer also brings peak wildlife activity, long daylight for exploring the ponderosa/piñon-juniper transition Peak months: September, June, July, August Avoid: October, November, December, January
Primary open season (May 15–Sept 30); pleasant daytime temps and peak usability.
