Best season: fall. Late summer-to-early fall (especially September) offers the best combination of comfortable daytime temperatures (typically mid-60s to low-80s°F), cool nights (40s–50s°F), fewer insects, and golden prairie colors along the lake. Water is still warm enough for boating and late-season swimming while shorebird and waterfowl migrations and excellent wildlife-viewing make hiking and photography especially rewarding. Crowd levels drop from peak summer, so you’ll find quieter campsites and better shore Peak months: September, May, June, July Avoid: October, November, December, January
Spring reviews praise cooler temps and fewer insects; good seasonal conditions before peak heat.
