Prairie hikers and budget campers will get the most out of it. The Summit Trailhead sits at the north end of camp, the 90-minute loop delivers real valley views, and the price is zero. Grab the hollow walk-in tent sites if road-side exposure bothers you.
No potable water means packing everything in, and four of the five sites sit right on the road through camp with minimal buffer. Highway construction near the campground is planned for summer 2026, so expect potential access delays if that's your window.

<p>There are two walk-in tent sites with picnic tables and fire grates. There are also two picnic areas with shelters and pull through camping units for RV's and other vehicles. The campground has a handicap accessible vault toilet.</p><p>A 100-yd hiking trail leading west from the campground provides visitors with a scenic view of the underlying valley. Summit trailhead is in the north end of the campground on the west side of the road. The campground has sufficient parking space that can also be used as a meeting point for Summit Trail.</p>

Summer brings the warmest and most reliable conditions, with daytime highs typically in the 70s–80s°F and cool prairie nights in the 40s–50s°F. Trails and roads are dry, wildflowers peak, and long daylight hours make exploration easy. Expect modest weekend crowds given the five-site limit. Midweek stays are very quiet. Winter transforms the area with freezing temperatures and occasional snowfall, creating opportunities for winter activities but requiring serious cold-weather gear.
