No vault toilets, no potable water, and Site A has been closed since May 2022, leaving only two sites bookable. Groups expecting any infrastructure, or anyone coming solo or as a small party, won't meet the 10-person minimum to reserve at all.

<p>A pleasant setting for a group camp. It is bordered by the Nantahala River, a native trout stream, and numerous hiking trails to adjoining mountain peaks are present. Three group sites with a maximum of 25 people per site are available on a reservation basis only. Kimsey Creek Group Campground is a group area within Standing Indian Campground. Big and small game hunting occurs in the surrounding area.</p><p>Update 5/4/22: Kimsey Creek site A is closed</p>

Summer is the best time to visit. At this elevation, expect daytime highs from 65 to 85°F and nighttime lows in the mid-40s to mid-50s between June and August. This is when trout fishing, river wading, and longer hikes are most accessible. The campground sees its heaviest use on holiday weekends and summer Saturdays. Spring brings wildflowers and comfortable hiking weather. Fall offers good conditions with changing leaves. Winter brings seasonal closures. Afternoon thunderstorms can roll through in summer.
